Ileana D’cruz Biography
Ileana D’cruz was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra as the second child to father Ronald D’Cruz and Mother Samira. Ileana D’cruz has three siblings — older sister Farrah, younger brother Rhys and youngest sister Eileen. Her first name comes from Greek mythology, meaning Helen of Troy. In her growing up years, Ileana D’cruz resided in Goa for about seven years.
During that time, the manager of the hotel her mother was working in, proposed that Ileana has a beautiful face with a vibrant smile and should initiate modelling and set up a meeting with Marc Robinson. Although initially reluctant, Ileana D’cruz was persuaded and her first portfolio was made in January 2003, which she described as a “disaster”. Ileana D’cruz began getting noticed through photo shoots and ramp shows and her second portfolio was set up the following year, which landed her three advertisements from Electrolux, Emami Talc and Fair and Lovely. The latter, in particular, which was directed by Rakesh Roshan, gave her exposure and brought in several offers for acting in feature films.
Ileana D’cruz Career
Ileana D’cruz established her Bollywood debut with Anurag Basu directorial Barfi!, as the role of a narrator starring alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. The movie released on 14 September 2012, to highly positive reviews from critics. Ileana D’cruz portrayal won her critical acclaim, with a review on Filmfare stating “This is Ileana’s first film but her fantastic performance is just a testament why the Telugu audience consider her a superstar. Of course it also helps that she is the most visually appealing in Barfi! out shining even the scenic hills of Darjeeling”. Rajeev Masand said of Ileana D’cruz performance, “Ileana leaves a lasting impression in her Hindi film debut, expressing both love and pain through those beautiful, expressive eyes”.
Ileana D’cruz later signed her second Hindi film, Phata Poster Nikla Hero opposite actor Shahid Kapoor, which is expected to start filming in November 2012 and scheduled to release sometime in 2013.
Ileana D’cruz made her acting debut with a Telegu romantic movie called Devadasu. With her debut, Ileana got good compliments as cool debutant actress. Ileana D’cruz even won the Filmfare Award for the Best Female debutant. Afterwards, Ileana D’cruz played in the movie Pokiri opposite to Mahesh Babu directly by Prabhu Deva. The movie was biggest commercial success for Ileana and Ileana D’cruz received many good compliments for this movie as an established actress.
In Year 2006, Ileana D’cruz made her Tamil debut in the film Kedi. But the movie did not do well. Some of the other movies like Khatarnak, Rakhi and Munna also did’nt do well at the box offfice. In year 2007, Ileana D’cruz signed a movie called Aata in telugu with Siddhath. She received very favorable reviews for her performance as Satya in this movie.
In 2008, Ileana featured opposite to Pawan Kalyan in the movie Jalsa. The film Jalsa was a financially successful movie. Ileana D’cruz got a huge positive remarks with good compliments as pretty, damn cool and lovely bubbly girl in the film. In Year 2009, Ileana signed the movie Kick and also nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Telugu Actress.
In 2010, Ileana D’cruz made her Kannada film debut to perform an item number Ileana Ileana. She again made a big rock solid performance with the movie Nenu Naa Rakshasi. Ileana’s performance in the film received positive comments by critics as she was looking stunning in the movie.
